Is Hurricane Safety Services a government program?
No. Hurricane Safety Services is a private referral program. We are not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the State of Florida, the My Safe Florida Home program, FEMA, any insurance company, or any government agency.
Who actually does the work?
Independent licensed Florida contractors from our partner network. Which one you're matched with depends on where your property is. Hurricane Safety Services is not a licensed contractor and does not perform construction work — we connect homeowners with contractors who do. Any agreement for work is made directly between you and that contractor, and you'll see who you're booking with before you confirm.
Does booking an assessment obligate me to buy anything?
No. The assessment is free and exists to help you understand your options. You decide whether to move forward, and you're free to get other quotes.
Will replacing my roof or windows lower my insurance?
It might. Some qualifying wind mitigation features can result in credits or discounts, but eligibility and the amount of any savings are determined solely by your insurance carrier. Nobody in this process can promise you a specific number, and you should be skeptical of anyone who does.
Can you get me a My Safe Florida Home grant?
No — nobody can, other than the state. My Safe Florida Home is run by the Florida Department of Financial Services, you apply directly at mysafeflhome.com, and DFS alone decides eligibility and awards. What we do is connect you with a contractor approved to perform work under the program, who can tell you whether your home and income are likely to fit before you invest time in applying. One warning worth repeating: if you start work before your grant is approved, you disqualify the application.
What's the catch with PACE financing?
It isn't a catch so much as a trade-off you should understand. PACE requires no money down and has no minimum credit score — approval rests mainly on your home's equity and your ability to repay, with only a soft credit pull. But repayment runs through your property tax bill and is secured by an assessment against the home, which can complicate selling or refinancing until it's paid off. It's a reasonable option for plenty of homeowners and a poor one for others, particularly anyone planning to sell soon. Ask the provider to explain the lien before signing anything.
Will this actually lower my insurance?
It might, and we won't pretend to know by how much. Florida insurers give credits for documented wind mitigation features, but eligibility and the amount are decided solely by your carrier — not by us, not by the contractor. A wind mitigation inspection is worth doing regardless, because it documents what your home already has. Be skeptical of anyone promising you a specific percentage.
What areas do you serve?
Florida homeowners. Availability depends on the property location and the type of work involved. If you're outside the service area, we'll tell you rather than waste your time.
What happens after I book?
You'll get an immediate confirmation email with your appointment time and a link to reschedule, plus a reminder before the visit. Your assigned contractor may also contact you to confirm details.
